Please join the Greater Phoenix Orienteering Club and the City of Holbrook as we present a clinic entitled "Introduction to Orienteering" in the Hidden Cove Park in Holbrook, AZ. We're pleased to bring our beginner's training to a completely new location for the club. Saturday's events include a 2-3 hour beginner's clinic and a short practice/sprint course.

The Hidden Cove Park in Holbrook is currently under development by the City of Holbrook. With spectacular cliffs and a good-sized lake, the park is home to a wide variety of birds and mammals. In addition, indigenous inhabitants occupied the site for 100's of years. Their presence is marked by over 300 remaining petroglyphs. We look forward to the continued development of this incredible natural and historic site.

All participants under age 18 are now required to have a signed parental consent form on file with the club. You can complete the form before the event and either scan it and send it to us by e-mail or bring it with you to the event.

Schedule:

Saturday, October 3, 2015
7:30	Registration for the Beginner's Clinic begins.
08:00 - 10:00	Introduction to Orienteering Beginner's Clinic. Click here for more information. Beginner's Practice Course. After the clinic, beginner's can practice their new skills on a practice course. Participants have until 13:00 to finish the course.
9:30	Registration for the sprint event begins.
10:00 - 13:00	Sprint Event (short orienteering event) Start anytime between 10:00 and 12:00. Courses close at 1:00 PM.

Cost (members/non-members):

All of Saturday's events are free.

What to Bring:

• Whistle (Mandatory for all. Available for purchase for $1)
• Compass (Mandatory for all. Available for rent for $1)
• Water. There will be water at the start/finish . However, you are strongly encouraged to bring your own water bottles or a camelback.
• Sun screen. There is little or no shade on the course.
• Sturdy hiking shoes and long pants are recommended. You may encounter cactus, cat claw, and loose terrain.
