Introduction

We're excited to offer a new event site for you to practice your navigation skills. In partnership with the Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course, we're hosting two orienteering events on Saturday, August 27 at the Fort Tuthill County Park just south of Flagstaff. We hope you'll consider the opportunity to get out of the Phoenix heat and enjoy a nice day in forest.

	Beginner's Clinic	We'll use this clinic to teach basic navigation concepts that will help you navigate through any of our orienteering events. These same concepts are equally useful for any land navigation using a compass and topographic maps. Additional details concerning our beginner's clinic are found here.
	2-Hour Score-O	Beginners and experienced orienteers alike can explore the Fort Tuthill area during our 2-hour Score-O. Score-O participants can take up to 2 hours to search for control destinations spread throughout a designated area. The Score-O has challenges for both beginning and experienced orienteers. 	Flagstaff Extreme	After orienteering, you're welcome to try your hand at the Flagstaff Extreme world-class tree-top adventure course.

Parental Consent

All participants under age 18 are now required to have a signed parental consent form on file with the club. You can complete the form before the event and either scan it and send it to us by e-mail or bring it with you to the event.

Pre-registration

While on-site, day-of-event registration is available, we will print a limited number of extra maps. We cannot guarantee that we'll have maps for everyone who registers on the day of the event. We strongly suggest that you pre-register to ensure you get a map.

When pre-registering, each individual participant must complete a separate pre-registration form. On the day of the event, you are welcome to get together as a group and participate in a team of any size. You will sign waivers and organize into teams at the event site on the day of the event.

08:30 AM	On-site Registration Begins for the Beginner's Clinic and the Score-O We recommend that you pre-register. here We will print a limited number of extra maps. To ensure you get a map, please pre-register so we know you're coming.
09:00 AM	Beginner's Clinic Begins First time to start the 2-Hour Score-O
12:00 PM	Last time to start the Score-O
2:00 PM	Score-O course closes We'll start picking up bags at this time.
2:30 PM	Last time to finish Score-O Participants who finish after this time are marked as "Did Not Finish".

Costs (GPHXO members/non-members)

Beginner's Clinic	$5 for each participant
Score-O: Individual Participants	$5/$10
Score-O: Family/Teams	$8/$15

What to Bring:

The list below is the minimum recommended for participation in the Score-O.

Whistle (Mandatory for all. Available for purchase for $1)
Compass (Mandatory for all. Available for rent for $1)
Water. There will be water at the start/finish . We will also have one or two water stations on most courses. You are, however, strongly encouraged to bring your own water bottles or a camelback.
Sun screen.
Sturdy hiking shoes and long pants are recommended. There are virtually no cactus or catclaw on this map, but there are a few localized areas of thick brush that can scratch exposed skin.
