On Saturday, January 7th, the Greater Phoenix Orienteering Club will be hosting a 3-hour Score-O at the Robbins Butte Wildlife Area out near Buckeye. We hope you'll consider joining us for a great day of navigation fun.

The terrain is a mixture of rocky outcroppings and flat desert. Due to the relatively flat terrain and sparse vegetation, cross-country travel is “friendlier” than on some of our other maps—there are very few areas of dense cactus or catclaw. On most parts of the map, terrain visibility is also excellent. Water is available at the timer's table and there will be two water stops on the course. You should also plan to bring a water bottle or camelback to carry with you.
|
People of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. A free beginner's clinic will be available for new participants and those needing a refresher. You may start anytime after the course opens at 9:00 am until 11:00 am, although to get the full 3 hours on the Score-O course, you must start no later than 10:30 am. Everyone, competitors and recreational participants alike, must be off the course and checked into the timer's table by 1:30 pm when the course closes.
|
The course setting is still underway, but there will be 30+ controls, with a “setter’s route” course length of ~17 km (10 miles).

NOTE: We ask that you pre-register for this event. We will print some extra maps. However, we can't guarantee that we'll have maps for those who come to participate without pre-registering. You can guarantee yourself a map by pre-registering using the link here
