The Greater Phoenix Orienteering Club is hosting a day of orienteering on Saturday, March 6 on the north bank of Saguaro Lake north-east of the Phoenix metropolitan area. We're offering a 2-hour Score-O at the Butcher Jones Recreation Site. Further details are found below. We hope you'll consider joining us for a great day of navigation fun. The terrain surrounding the Butcher Jones Recreation Site is dramatic. Steep cliffs and deep ravines surround the lake. While the course itself avoids dangerous terrain, the views over the lake are impressive. Foot travel to some of the destinations on the map is slowed by climbs in the hills surrounding the lake. The vegetation in spots is thick with some reports of scorpion weed and poison ivy. Make sure you bring your camera. Due to Coronavirus restrictions, we won't have any water stations on the course. Please plan to bring your own water bottle or camelback to carry with you. People of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. We'll include easier locations for less experienced navigators as well as more difficult locations for our experienced participants. We hope you'll find time in your busy schedule to join us for a day of navigation fun. |
To make this event as safe as reasonably possible in the current COVID-19 environment, we are taking the following measures:
|
Parental Consent Now Required (Click here for more information) All participants under age 18 are now required to have a signed parental consent form on file with the club. You can complete the form before the event and either scan it and send it to us by e-mail or bring it with you to the event. |
Participants who pre-register for the event benefit from our priority pricing. Part of pre-registration for this event involves selecting a start window. In order to keep participants as separated as possible, we ask everyone to start their event within the time window they select. While on-site registration is still available, pricing for on-site registration is more expensive. In addition, we'll print some extra maps for each of our events, but we cannot guarantee a map for those who do not pre-register.
Pre-Registration is open until Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 11:59 PM. After the pre-registration closes, you can still try your luck and register on-site. We will have pre-printed maps for everyone who pre-registers. We cannot guarantee a map for those who register on-site. |
