Events We're excited to introduce a new event site for the club. In partnership with Yavapai College/Verde Valley, we're moving to the base of Mingus Mountain to offer two "Open Nav" events in the hills and washes surrounding the Clarkdale campus. In "Open Nav", participants travel to destination markers ("controls") marked on a pre-printed map on foot, by mountain bike, or any combination of the two. Except for the choice of traveling by foot or mountain bike, the events are the same as our regular Score-O events. The goal is to collect the most points in either 2 or 4 hours. It's up to each person to decide how to travel to maximize the points they collect. The terrain surrounding the Yavapai College in Clarkdale is rugged in spots. Starting fairly flat with minimal vegetation around the college, the terrain quickly climbs several hundred feet into the foothills of Mingus Mountain. An extensive network of trails takes participants through spurs and washes of the Blowout Creek drainage. Vegetation surrounding washes and higher elevations is sometimes thick and prickly. Please note that traveling by mountain bike is only allowed on trails marked on the map. Participants may carry their bikes off-trail but are not allowed to ride their bikes off-trail. The administrators of the lands surrounding Yavapai College have generously provided us a permit to conduct bike and foot navigation events. We want to ensure we're allowed to return to the site in the future. Riding mountain bikes off-trail will result in disqualification. About half of the controls will be within 100 meters of existing trails. Those traveling by bicycle are required to dismount their bikes and travel the remaining distance on foot. We hope you'll join us for some navigation fun in the higher altitudes surrounding Yavapai College in Clarkdale. Pre-Registration and Fees
