Writeup

The weather in Phoenix for all of February was fantastic. With temperatures in the mid-80's, our Papago Park events were definitely a treat for our friends coming from colder climates. We were excited to welcome participants from as far away as Alaska, Massachusetts, and Sweden. The Papago Park events were part of the larger "Southwest Spring Week" put on by the Phoenix and Tucson clubs. Thanks to everyone who showed up and helped make our events a success.

Derrick Beracy set two fun "sprint" events that took participants in and around the rocks at Papago Park. The sprints were designed as shorter events with easier navigation. With the wide open desert in the park, we expected fast times. Our Swedish competitor Isak Prellner set the pace for both events. The open terrain really fit well with his running abilities. Isabel Bryant enjoyed the change from Massachusetts weather to finish Sprint 1 with an impressive time. Brian Durrell had a nice run on Sprint 2 where the open terrain was an improvement to avoiding moose and slogging through snow in Alaska. Rounding out the top 3 on both events was Charlie Shahbazian who had a good outing without the headwinds of Chicago.

We hope everyone enjoyed the warm weather and interesting landscapes of Papago Park. We look forward to welcoming you again for one of our future events.
