WriteupOur new Coconino Community College event site worked quite well for the weekend's sprint events. Participants enjoyed navigating on three courses of varying lengths through the pine forest surrounding the college. Even though the area is surrounded by city development, it offers a nice introduction to orienteering in a forest. The main Motala event combined all three courses into a single event. Participants were allowed to run the courses in any order to combine all three courses together. In the men's category, twenty seconds separated the two leaders John Beard and Mark Hawthorne. The women's category was even closer with 5 seconds separating Marcy Beard and Amber Tinstman. Three additional individuals and teams visited all the controls on all three courses, and two more individuals went out on the three courses but were limited by the event closure time. Thanks to everyone who joined us at our new Coconino Community College event site. We're excited to have another site for orienteering in Flagstaff, especially one so close to the center of town and one that offers such a nice introduction to forest navigation. We look forward to offering more events at the college in the future. |
