Writeup

November weather in Phoenix is usually quite pleasant. The weather at Saturday's Bartlett Lake event was no exception. The morning started out crisp with temperatures around 50F, but climbed to 70F by the early afternoon. It was a great day for exploring the area around Bartlett Lake. The views from the hills down to the lake and surrounding mountains are spectacular. The vegetation is also quite thick. Most everyone had a story of getting attacked by a cholla or two.

No one cleared the entire course. Marcy and John Beard came close by visiting 21 and 20 of the 25 total controls. Jason Cram and Kevin Adams visited 19 and 17 controls respectively. Jason started the day hiking with his dog for an hour, so he might have been able to pick off even more destinations. On the 1.5-hour course, Team Save Pluto had a respectable outing by visiting 9 controls.

We put two participants into a special "Make Your Own Time Limit" category. Derek Drudge thought it was a 4-hour Score-O, so he gets partial credit for arriving under 4 hours. Maybe I need to work on explaining things better. Kelly Boyd was having so much fun that at some point, he decided to simply come back before the courses closed at 1:00 PM, to maximize enjoyment of the area.

And a special thanks to Erik Ringnes, who came to the area just to help collect bags after the event, and Kevin Adams, Dan Yamashiro, and Marcy and John Beard, who collected some of the controls after their 3-hour effort. We look forward to seeing everyone at an upcoming event.
