GPHXO Sprint Courses
Description
(This page provides a general description of the Greater Phoenix Orienteering Club's Sprints events.
The information here is general and may or may not apply to any specific event. Please see the
individual event webpage for details of your specific event.)
Summary:
The Greater Phoenix Orienteering Club "sprint" events are shorter than our normal events (2-4km). Also, the control markers are usually easier to find. The fastest competitors will finish a sprint in 15-30 minutes. Those with a more leisurely pace will finish a sprint in 30-60 minutes. The sprints are most often point-to-point events where participants visit the control markers in the sequence shown on the map. Unlike a Score-O, there is no set time limit to complete the course. Instead, your rank is based on the time it takes to complete the course. You must visit all the controls in order to have a finish time.
We often offer two sprints at a given event site, one shorter course and one longer. Participants are invited to try either or both courses. For events with a larger attendance, we may offer courses for different skill levels like the classic courses.
