Damp ground, cool weather and fog. That doesn't sound like Phoenix, but this was the scene at Papago Park for our December 2018 events. Forest Brown gave a Beginner's clinic at the Archery range. At the main park, we held a 2-hr Score-O, the first Score-O we've ever had at Papago Park. Ron Birks set a course that used the entire park area. Twenty-one participants ran the course, including many who had attended the clinic. Seven runners cleared the course, and 2 others got 18 of 19 controls. In the end, the team of Amber and Todd finished first overall with a scorching time under one hour. Lee Magnusson was the fastest man on the day, and Irene Fabig the fastest woman. Veronica Nixon & Magda Ayala were the quickest all-female team. So that's the story, short and sweet. It took a team effort to put on this event, with several club members volunteering. We also appreciate the support of the City of Phoenix Parks Department. |
