Introduction

If you haven't noticed, Phoenix is really hot in the summer. In order to continue to enjoy our navigation sports in the summer, we've created a number of event sites in the cool pine forests surrounding Flagstaff. This year, we're excited to offer a summer event series of adventure races (navigation by bike and by foot), bike orienteering, and Score-O courses in the Flagstaff area.

On Saturday, July 24, we offer our first events of the summer series. We'll start the day with a 5-hour adventure race. Check-in for the adventure race starts at 7:00 AM. The course opens at 7:30 AM. The last time to start the adventure race is 8:30 AM. Please note that due to limited parking at the event site, this is not a mass-start event. Teams of 1 to 4 individuals start the course with 20-25 km of navigation on mountain bike. After, the teams transition to navigation on foot. The courses will both include mandatory and optional destinations, with each bike destination worth 2 points and each destination visited on foot worth 1 point. The team that collects the most points wins.

Later in the morning, we'll continue the day by offering a 2-hour Score-O. In a Score-O, teams of 1 to 4 individuals visit as many destinations as they can in a 2-hour limit. Destinations further away with more difficult navigation are worth more points than the destinations close to the start/finish. Once again, the team that collects the most points wins.

We will also offer a 3-hour Bike-O. Participants will visit as many destinations as they can in the 3-hour time limit. The Bike-O starts between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM.

Due to the popularity of Flagstaff in the summer, we need to get started early, to make sure participants have access to sufficient parking and to avoid the crowds that arrive at our race sites later in the morning. Also, changes in insurance costs and permit fees have made it necessary to change the pricing for our events. See below for additional details.

Pre-Registration and Fees

We request that you pre-register for the Flagstaff events here. While pre-registration is not required, those who pre-register will get a break on the registration fees. By pre-registering, you give us an idea how many maps we need to print. Some on-site registration is available, but we can't guarantee a map for those who don't pre-register.

In order to promote pre-registration for our events, the Club has a graded pricing structure. Participants who pre-register for the event will benefit from our priority pricing. While on-site registration is still available, pricing for on-site registration is more expensive. We'll print some extra maps for each of our events, but we cannot guarantee a map for those who do not pre-register.

Pre-Registration
Pre-Registration is open until Thursday, July 22 at 11:59 PM. After the pre-registration closes, you can still try your luck and register on-site. We will have pre-printed maps for everyone who pre-registers. We cannot guarantee a map for those who register on-site.
