Events
Please join us for the first of three Phoenix events that are part of the Southwest Spring Week orienteering festival. On Saturday morning, March 9, the Greater Phoenix Orienteering Club presents a two-hour Score-O as well as long and short classic courses at our Bomboy Mine site east of Phoenix. All events use the same map. The terrain at Bomboy Mine is rugged in places with a mixture of rolling hills, rocky outcroppings, cliffs, rocky waterways, etc. The desert is sometimes runnable, but there are also areas with a high concentration of prickly plants to navigate through. On almost all parts of the map, terrain visibility is excellent. People of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. Due to limited parking, we ask each participant to select a specific 30-minute window between 7:00 and 10:00 in which they will start their course. For the Score-O, participants must finish their course under the two-hour time limit. Those arriving after two hours are penalized 10 points per minute. For the long/short classic courses, you're welcome to take as long as you like to complete your course up to the 12:00 cutoff time. All courses close at 12:00. We'll mark anyone arriving after 12:00 as DNF. |
We ask for a donation of $10 per participant for any of the events at Bomboy Mine. Members of the GPHXO or TSN clubs can get a $5 discount. Participants who sign up for all three Phoenix Southwest Spring Week events will also get a $5 discount.
