We hope you'll consider joining us as we open another new event site for the club. On Saturday, September 14, we're offering a 3-hour Score-O in the cool pine forest surrounding the Kelly Canyon Trailhead, just east of I-17 exit 331, ~9 miles south of Flagstaff. The Score-O is a longer event with participants traveling to as many destinations as possible within the three-hour time limit. The map will present some challenging navigation to avoid areas with difficult terrain.
The mountain forests around 7000 feet make the Kelly Canyon Trailhead a perfect place to enjoy the cool late-summer temperatures around Flagstaff. The orienteering terrain is challenging in places as the course winds in and out of the drainages surrounding the trailhead. There are also plenty of areas of flat and open pine forest to challenge your navigation skills. The forest surrounding the trailhead has undergone thinning in the past few years, so the terrain is mostly runnable. We hope you'll take some time from your busy schedules to join us and explore the area.
