Events
Please join us as we offer another day of orienteering fun at a new event site just north of Flagstaff. While we've held events starting from the Fort Valley Trailhead before, this will be the first time we use the terrain to the west and northwest of the trailhead. On Saturday, September 13, we'll present a 3-hour Score-O. During the Score-O, participants try to find as many destination markers and they can in the 3-hour time limit. There is no prescribed course to follow. Participants visit as many or as few markers as they can.
The terrain around the Fort Valley Trailhead is mostly sparse pine forest with thicker growth in drainages that criss-cross the area. Much of the forest west of the trailhead has undergone thinning work, so the forest is open and runnable in spots. Areas where the terrain climbs are covered with boulders which make travel difficult. Parts of the map further away from the trailhead have not undergone thinning and therefore include thicker forest. Water is available at the timer's table but not on the course itself. We advise participants to bring their own water.
