These events replace events previously scheduled at Petrified Forest National Park. Due to the government shutdown, we were forced to cancel the Petrified Forest events. We offer the events at Sophie's Flat and Hawes Trailhead for those who will take the trip to Phoenix and would like to do some orienteering while they're here.

These two replacement events were added to our schedule after events at Petrified Forest National Park were cancelled. We've had minimum time to prepare for these events. We hope you'll enjoy navigating in the desert around Phoenix as a replacement to navigating in a national park. We hope we won't have a government shutdown for next year's events at Petrified Forest.

Online Signup and Fees

We are not requiring an official registration/signup. Please send an e-mail to registration@gphxo.org to let us know if you plan to join us at one or both of the events and how many people you plan to bring. We will print enough maps to cover those who send us an e-mail.

What to Bring:

Whistle Mandatory for all.
Available for purchase for $1.00.
Compass Available for rent for $1.00.
Water bottles. We will not provide water on the course. We strongly encourage you to bring your own water bottles or a camelback.
Sunscreen There is little to no shade on the course.
Sturdy hiking shoes and long pants Recommended. You may encounter cactus, cat claw, and loose terrain.
