Wild Horse Trailhead

We're excited to offer another new event on our calendar. On Sunday, May 25, we're presenting a 2-hour Sunrise Score-O at a new location: the Wild Horse Trailhead, approximately 0.4 miles east of milepost 23 on the Bush Highway. Because of the heat, we typically stop offering events in the Phoenix area in April. This year, we're trying something new. In order to beat the heat, we'll be setup and ready to go at 5:00 AM. Sunrise is at 5:23 AM. The last time to start the course is 7:30 AM, and the course closes at 9:30 AM.

If you've lived in Phoenix for any time, you know that summer heat can be oppressive. But, you also know that you can avoid some of the heat by avoiding the outdoors during the middle of the day. In mid-May, temperatures at sunrise are in the low 70's. By 9:00 AM, the temperature rises to the low 80's. We're offering a morning of orienteering fun in May by finishing before the temperature gets too hot later in the day.

If the "sunrise" orienteering concept works, we'll consider offering more orienteering events in the Phoenix area in the late spring/early summer. We hope you'll consider joining us at the Wild Horse Trailhead.

All participants under age 18 are now required to have a signed parental consent form on file with the club. You can complete the form before the event and either scan it and send it to us by e-mail or bring it with you to the event.
