Classic Courses at NAU, Night-O at Fort Tuthill
Please join us in Flagstaff as we present another day of navigation fun. On Saturday, June 21, we'll present two Classic courses on NAU campus and a Night-O at Fort Tuthill County Park. We'll start the day at 3:30 PM with two options for Classic courses on NAU campus, a 3.3 km course with lots of controls, and a 4.2 km course with less controls. You're welcome to try both courses if you like. Later, we'll all gather near the Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course at Fort Tuthill at 7:30 PM for a 2-hour Night-O. In the Night-O, participants find as many controls as they can in the two-hour time limit. |
Registration and first starts for the NAU courses is 3:30 PM. The last time to start a course at NAU is 5:30 PM. At Fort Tuthill, registration begins at 7:30 PM. We'll have a mandatory pre-race briefing at 7:45 PM, with a mass start at 8:00 PM. The Night-O course closes at 10:00 PM. |

For each event, we ask for a donation of $10 per person to cover printing fees, advertising, insurance, etc. Please register and pay through our registration links shown above.

Whistle | Participants at orienteering events are usually required to carry a whistle. Most orienteering involves navigating off-trail, where participants can sometimes travel to areas that are rarely visited by other users of the area. The whistle is a safety precaution which allows orienteering participants to signal their presence to others in case of an emergency. This rule is obviously less important on the NAU campus. |
Compass | We prefer participants to bring their own compass. This will allow them to learn techniques during the training, then practice the techniques further at home. We will provide compasses to those who are not able to bring their own. |
Sun screen. | There will be some afternoon sun in Flagstaff. |
Water | We will not provide water on the course or at the start/finish. You may want to bring your own water bottles or a camelback. |
Sturdy hiking shoes and Long pants |
We would recommend these for off-trail courses. The NAU campus is well manicured throughout. Shorts and tennis shoes will work nicely. |
