Notes

  • All Phoenix events use manual punching, just like we did in the 70's.
  • Phoenix events will not use electronic punching. (Do you see how we used two bullets to say the same thing?)
  • We do not need to know your SI number for Phoenix events. (Three bullet points, one item. It's our creative writing for the week.)
  • The terrain for all three Phoenix events is virtually the same. All events are in areas surrounding Bartlett Lake, northeast of Cave Creek, AZ. You can expect mid-level concentrations of sharp, pointy plants, and even beautiful gardens full of teddy bear cholla. We suggest you wear sturdy shoes, leg coverings, and bring a nice comb or two to extract cholla balls out of your legs. Or, avoid the cholla to come off the courses unscathed.
  • The lake has been down as much as 30 feet from it's full state. That means a lot of land is exposed that is usually under water. Recent rains may fill the reservoir a bit. You're welcome to cut corners and use the exposed lake bed if you think it would be faster.

  • Tonto Pass Required: A Tonto Pass is required to access the National Forest for this event.
